Dragonfly

Sweet Rita

He got dressed in his Sunday best and looked outside
the sun was shining the bacon was frying from a house by the road side
children were playing the trees were swaying
the birds were flying by
today was a day he’s marry his babe forever be by his side

Sweet Rita
His one and only love
Sweet Rita
His angel from above

With the church bells ringing and the whole choir singing
and the congregation dancing in the aisles
there was a big procession where the band was playing
all night long all night long

The days were full as the moon could get
in the darkness of the sky
the feeling we got from that night
would stay with us through our lives

I’m Done

Somebody turn the damn heat up I’m freezing cold
Since I lost my lover I can’t keep warm
Its a catch 22 for losing you
Well I miss your touch but not what you put me through

I changed my clothes for you and I changed my hair
Wore those high heeled shoes that you wanted me to wear
Well I’m done I’m done I’m done with pleasing you
I’m leaving you now to do all the things I wanted to

I’ll ride through the country on an amtrak train
Stopping in places where no one knows my name
Well I won’t turn around and ask your advice
Cause that’s something I’d do in my old life

I’ll walk all the beaches around this world
Searching for shells with that perfect pearl
I’ll drink in the culture from those coastal towns
and I’ll dance with the locals till the sun goes down

Close to you

I was a fool for my baby
and i’ll do it all over again
just to get close to you
I’d even join the navy
if it suited my baby
just to get close to you

We’ll I’d vie for your affection
and I’d long for your kiss good night
But you don’t even notice me
I’m the girl to your right

I’ll pollish my shine
and you won’t waste your time
Just to get close to you
and I’ll pray for your love
Hope to get my wish from above

Dragonfly

I’m a dragonfly fluttering by
I’ll hover close so you will know
No goodbyes

I’m an open door just walk through
You will find a way I’ll watch over you
No goodbyes

I’m a wintery wind blowing through your bones
Make you feel alive
and know you're not alone
No goodbyes

My Town

We’ve got one main street one coffee shop
all at that one bus stop in town
My town
Gotta mayor that’s drunk and the cops are too
We don’t mind cause there’s nothing to do in town
My town

I wouldn’t change it for the stars in the sky
or the fireworks on the fourth of July
I wouldn’t change it for the world

One cobble stone street where the hookers meet
and one gay bar where all the drugs are in town
My town
Gotta country store with a music shop
guns in the back for sale on the rack in town
My town

We’ve got whiskey stills in our sugar shacks
we’ve got fresh meat from our razorbacks in town
My town
We’ve got one main street one coffee shop
all at that one bus stop in town
My town

Lazy

I’m gonna be flat out lazy
I might even sleep all afternoon
I’m gonna be flat out lazy
Gonna pet my cat and watch the new

Well the bills can wait
I don’t care if they’re late
Cause I’m gonna be lazy today

I’m gonna be flat out lazy
gonna sit around in underwear
I’m gonna be flat out lazy
I won’t take a shower or wash my hair

I’m gonna be flat out lazy
take phone right off the hook
I’m gonna be flat out lazy
Gonna order out and read a book

Ten Years Ago

Is she pretty like I once was
Does she laugh at your jokes because
Does her hair hang down just right
When you make love are there stars out above at night

Does she call in the afternoon
Disguise her voice incase its not you
Does she smile real shy and hide
When you make love are there stars out above at night

Does she speak like I once spoke
Is she me just ten years ago
Is she me just ten years ago

Do you smell her on your clothes
When she leaves you don’t want her to go
Does her giggle make you smile
When you make love are there stars out above at night

Caroline

I called you one night cause I thought you were out
But you picked up the line
Didn’t know what to say but you knew it was me
I Said hey Caroline

Caroline
Caroline
Are you mine
Caroline

We went for a walk and I looked in your eyes
the sun shown all around
You grabbed my hand and you squeezed it tight
The day turned into night

It started to rain and you took off your coat
said this is not goodbye
Remember these times as they go through your mind
They’re like fine aged wine

My Grandad

Nothing like a conversation
sitting in the railway station with my Grandad
he would sit some suds while I chewed on my milkduds
thats my Grandad

He always smiled at me
and said I was the special one
and that I’d have my day in the sun

Horses would be on TV with lots of old men yelling
That’s my Grandad
Tickets would be on floor mixed in with peanut shells of course
That’s my Grandad

I don’t think he ever won a dime But we always had a good time
That’s my Grandad
Those special times I won’t forget he lived his live with no regret
That’s my Grandad

Why Did you Run

It was mid October when we came over
to the other side
We had no money life sure is funny
When your love is riding high

Well picture those day When we sat in the shade
and talked until dawn
there was something about us like a colorful canvas
that one just doesn’t stumble upon

Hey hey hey why did you run

We had the laughter most people were after
it was ours forever more
The spring in our step even when we got wet
When the rain started to pour
We’d treated with kindness and sheer naive blindness
the way we went about our days
Lovers forever apart we were never
We had the world in our hands they would say

Find my Way Home

I’d like to hold you all night long
But I can’t seem to find my way home
I’d like to be in your arms
But I can’t seem to find my way home

If I could hold on for a couple more days
See my heart can’t hold out much too more
I’d climb every mountain till the end of my days
but my days just seem to short to ignore

I’d like to sit and watch the rain
But I can’t seem to find my way home
I’d like to travel on a boxcar train
But I can’t seem to find my way home

I’d like to hold you all night long
But I can’t seem to find my way home
No I can’t seem to find my way home
No I can’t seem to find my way home

Your Name’s Now Up in Lights

I would have walked on the moon for you
So I could see your name in lights
I would have carried all the burden for you
to make you happy for just one night

Its been said you have flowers in your hair
Its been said your eyes sparkle in the night air
Its been said you sleep through peaceful nights
Its been said your names now up in lights, your names now up in lights

I could have given my heart to you
Seems I don’t need it no more
I could have given a new start to you
It may have opened a few doors

I can feel your touch as  you wander through the days
and I know you’re right there
I can feel you smiling down on me
Guiding me through your prayer

I Don’t Want to get Dressed

I say gone with moon’s smiling face on the stars
it ain’t that bright for you to be shining all night
and I say gone with the days lasting hours just go away
i ain’t so keen on you lasting more than seventeen

Its not that I’m sad or even slightly depressed
Just get rid of that sunshine cause today I don’t want to get dressed

And I am down with rain
and I know I’ll stay in bed all day
Cause I am fly with the rain stopping by

Why Call Me

I once had a memory
You carried it off to sea
And I would smell the flowers
Pick everyone I see

So why call me

It could have been your smile
It could have been your blonde hair
It could have your mischievous life
or the fact you didn’t care

I followed in your footsteps
you buried them in the sand
and I would sip the moonlight
that cast its light in your hands
I hung on every word
Until the sound would fall
I painted pretty pictures
and hung them on the wall

No Neckties

Why are there no neckties
Where has  your luggage gone
You didn’t say goodbye
